93 petrol is expected to rise about R2.26. Forecasts are based on the Central Energy Fund's daily over/under-recovery data, which moves with oil prices and the rand until the end of the month.

Why

Oil has stayed above US$100 a barrel through October amid the Middle East conflict, and the rand has not strengthened enough to offset it. Earlier in the month the under-recovery for 95 petrol was much bigger (about R4.60/L) before easing to roughly R2/L by mid-month.

What it means for you

For a typical car using about 10.4 L/100km in real driving and doing 1 250 km a month, a change of R2.28/L is about R296 a month more. See what your own car costs, and whether a hybrid would save you money →
